AMP Motorsport supported LMT Rally Team drivers Andis Neiksans/Peteris Dzirkals took seventh position in World Rally Championship event Acropolis Rally of Greece. Latvians were 18th in overall standings of the rally. Neiksans/Dzirkals now lays in seventh place in PWRC ranking.
From beginning of the race main task was to save the car and to get to the finish. Andis and Peteris started sixth on the last day of the rally, only 17 seconds in front of Portuguese drivers Bernardo Sousa/Jorge Carvalho. After two stages of four of the day Sousa overcame Neiksans, but Andis took back sixth place in the penultimate stage. In deciding last stage Portuguese drivers was faster and Andis took seventh, with only 13 seconds deficit to the top-6.
“We are at finish with two PWRC points in the pocket, so we took our target,” Andis said. “We were cautious although team changed at least seven integral parts of suspension! It is impossible to avoid all the rocks, so it is hard for suspension. AMP Motorsport team really did great job as all the damage was averted and we had no problems with the car. It is pity we could not hold top-6 position. We planned to change the front tyres before the last stage but as the penultimate stage has been cancelled we had no time for that. So the tyres were used too much and could not resist 33 kilometers of the last stage. There was no protector at all on the tyres so we had to drive really carefully those last kilometers.”
Pirelli Star Driver Shootout for Northern Europe concluded on the eve of Neste Oil Rally Finland 2009 near Ruuhimaki. One of five selected drivers for Pirelli Star Driver European Final is Latvian driver Maris Neiksans, supported by AMP Motorsport.
The Shootout was challenging for the drivers as there were fitness test and performance in communication with the media, as well as short but difficult rally driving test. Rallying took place in the Ruuhimaki WRC special stage, biggest part of witch is on gravel, added by tarmac section in kart track. Ruuhimaki is always big challenge as it is famous with its tricky jumps, placed in bends.
There were eight drivers hoping to get in top-5 qualifying positions:
Ott Tänak (Estonia)
Joonas Lindroos (Finland)
Keith Cronin (Ireland)
Maris Neiksans (Latvia)
Vytautas Svedas (Lithuania)
Anders Kjaer (Norway)
Victor Henriksson (Sweden)
Kris Hall (UK)
On first day (July 29) there was fitness test and Maris was man to beat as he coped with maximum standard set by the organizers. Maris was not really happy with his showing in the media test and admitted that there is still room for improvement for European Final.
Maris was leading force in driving test on next day (July 30). He was fastest, proving experience and well prepared car is the key to success in contests like that. Verdict of the jury was that Maris Neiksans, Vitautas Svedas, Ott Tänak, Anderss Kjaer and Victor Henriksson had qualified for the Pirelli Star Driver European Final. The shootout will be held in Austria in September.
“I tried to do my best and to show everything I am capable of. I was very concentrated and, while I was not getting over the edge on my stages, I was driving really very fast. I want to say Thank you to AMP Motorsport for perfectly prepared and performing car, it was great!” said Maris Neiksans, who is now becoming ready for European Final. “The experience in working together with AMP Motorsport made it easier to find right car setup for Finnish roads and that, of course, helped us to set better stage times.”

The Cobra Sebring Pro, succeeds the original Sebring S and is the next evolution of the Supertouring seat with full Hans compatibility. It features the same high-side containment shape and lateral support found in the Suzuka with the addition of an integrated head restraint lined with Aearo foam absorbing 85% on initial shock energy presented to the head. The Sebring Pro is also outfitted with Cobra's independent leg support system (split cushion) for maximum driver support and agility, and anti-wear patches for hard-wearing good looks. Kevlar construction makes this seat 30% lighter and infinitely stronger than similar fiberglass seats. Standard width, will accomodate 5 or 6 point harness systems, and require alloy side mounts. FIA 8855-1999. Price 550 EUR
The Cobra Technology/Schroth Profi II 6PT Flexi Belt system is the lightest and strongest Cam Lock system available today. Features 3" polyester webbing at the shoulders and 2" polyester webbing "Flexi Design" at the lap belts, lightweight adjusters, and RFR rotary buckle. The 2" lap belt's notable feature is that it rides within the crest of the human pelvis where a 3" belt would rest on the edges. This allows you to get the belt up to an inch and a half tighter. That means the lap belt will be working earlier in the accident event because it gets loaded faster. It's also more comfortable and easier to adjust becuase there's less friction through the adjuster. The Flexi Lap belts allows both pull-up or pull-down adjustment with a simple exchange of the mounting hardware and the cam snap-in hardware from end to end. Dual substrap is clip-in. Shoulders come in 70" length. SFI 16.1 and FIA approved. Price 255 EUR
Here is the story of the history about Neiksans and AMP Motorsport. Less words, more photos to show our success in motorsport in last 30 years. We are glad to present you four important turning points in the history of our team:
And so it began! In 1973 sixteen years old pal from Bauska town was very interested in motocross.
Just couple of years later he owns the prestige status as Master of sport of USSR in motocross racing.
Maybe that is why Maris and Andis have such a great success in winter rallies?
After motocross Peteris went on to motoracing on tarmac.
But the back injury saw the end of motoracing career. After some break in sporting activities Peteris was back on track – now on four wheels.
Although racing was very important part for the family, Neiksans junior saw the daylight – named Maris.
After autocross in UAZ cars he went on to the rally with VAZ.
And there it goes – best time of Peteris career: autocross. First starts in European Autocross Championship.
The first and the only “Aleko 4x4” model in Soviet Union. The car was made in AMP Motorsport garage.
Year 1990: In front of native fans Peteris snatches 2nd place in Latvian round of European Autocross Championship. He was the first Latvian who stepped up to the podium in the history of the championship. Peteris Neiksans took respectable 4th place in overall standings that year. In his native Bauska there were tens of thousands of spectators, cheering for Peteris.
His last autocross race was in 1992. He left auto racing, but was back after five years as trainer and team chief for his two sons.
Cars were always part of brothers’ lives. It was not important what is the car – it was important to race with it!
Number 77 – Latvian champion in karting Maris Neiksans
After only one year in karting brothers understood that there must be more serious racing wheels. It was start of the autocross and rallycross career. The first car for Maris was VAZ 2108, built by AMP Motorsport.
Andis’ fifteenth birthday. Important moment – last nights in AMP Motorsport garage before first summer autocross race.
Seems only Andis could park his car like that!
The year of Champion. Maris Neiksans became Latvian autocross and rallycross champion in most prestige category 2000 FWD in year 2001. He raced with AMP Motorsport built VW Golf 3.
Debut in circuit racing was great – Maris Neiksans won his first race! Andis Neiksans made his debut in circuit racing year later – with some podium finishes also.
LMT Rally Team was founded in 2004. On the first year Maris Neiksans/Edgars Utans started with previously unseen rally car in Latvia – Ford Puma Super 1600. Andis Neiksans/Maris Jekabsons went on rally track with AMP Motorsport built Lada Samara.
After successful racing in Latvian championship there was new challenge for Maris in 2004 – debut race in World Rally Championship round Finland Rally.
Year later Maris was already in 4WD car - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, but Andis took the Ford Puma car. In WRC round in Finland Andis took respectable seventh place in the class standings and was 30th in overall.
The AMP Motorsport built brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI for Maris Neiksans/Maris Jekabsons on year 2006, but Andis Neiksans/Edgars Utans continued racing with Renault Clio. Both were fighting for national champion titles in respective classes, but LMT Rally Team took gold medal in championship for teams!
Team started year 2007 with AMP Motorsport built two new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX cars. Maris got two victories that year, but Andis took silver medal in Latvian championship. Highest point of the season was third place in N4 class and 20th in overall standings in Rally Finland WRC. That was best result in WRC for Latvian rallying!
In 2007 and 2008 AMP Motorsport builds six brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX cars. They were competing for leading positions in Latvian as well as international rallies.
In 2008 Andis Neiksans/Peteris Dzirkals took 2nd place in Latvian championship. Maris Neiksans/Gundars Kreilis took victory in North European Zone (NEZ) championship N4 class final standings. In season 2008 and 2009 AMP Motorsport was servicing Dakar rally-raid car OSCar, driven by Andris Feldmanis/Krists Feldmanis.
In the beginning of 2009 AMP Motorsport built first in Latvia Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X for driver Raimonds Strokss.
One of biggest challenges is season 2009: LMT Rally Team takes decision to put Andis Neiksans/Peteris Dzirkals in full PWRC program supported by AMP Motorsport!
To be continued!
